Terms & Conditions

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and First Salary (“we”, “us”), which runs firstsalary.com (“the site”). By using the site you agree to them, and to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal data. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site. These terms are an electronic record under India’s Information Technology Act, 2000, and need no signature.

What First Salary does

First Salary helps you find your first job. You upload your resume, and we read it with AI to build your profile and a resume you can edit. We match your skills with jobs, let you apply to them, and offer interview questions to prepare with. You can also download your resume as a PDF in a choice of layouts, make a public URL for it to share, and talk with others about interviews, offers and first jobs on Discussion. The site is free for job seekers. We don’t promise that you will get an interview or a job.

Your account

You must be 18 or older to use First Salary. Give us true information and keep your password to yourself. If someone else gets into your account, tell us at once at privacy@firstsalary.com. You are responsible for what is done in your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and refuse a new one from the same person.

Your resume and content

Your resume, and everything you add to your profile, stay yours. You let us store, copy, read and reformat them as the site needs to work for you. That includes having them read by our AI provider, showing them to our support team when they help you, and sending them to the employers you apply to. We don’t sell them, and we don’t use them for anything our Privacy Policy doesn’t describe.

Upload only your own resume, or one you have the person’s permission to share. Anyone can upload a resume without an account, so this matters. You are responsible for what you upload being accurate and yours to share. We may remove anything that breaks these terms or the law.

Sharing your resume by public URL

Every account has a public URL: a link to the PDF of your resume, shown to you on your dashboard and My Resume. Anyone who has the link can open it without signing in, and see everything printed on your resume, including your email address and phone number. It always shows your latest saved resume, in the layout you use. You choose whom to give the link to, and you are responsible for sharing it: anyone who opens it can download your resume and pass the link on, and we can’t control what they do. Your profile page lists it only if you turn on “Display public resume URL” there, a switch only you can see. We ask search engines not to list it, but we can’t promise that it will never be found.

The address doesn’t change. If you need a new one, write to privacy@firstsalary.com: we give your resume a new address and the old one stops working at once. Deleting your account turns it off too. Neither recalls copies people already downloaded. Use your public URL only to share your resume, not to host anything else. We may turn off a public URL that breaks these terms, limit how often one can be opened, and turn away anyone who keeps trying addresses that don’t exist.

Discussion

Discussion, at /discussion, is where people on the site talk about interviews, offers and first jobs. Anyone can read a topic, signed in or not; the replies are for people who are signed in. Your User ID is on everything you post there, and links to your profile page. You are responsible for what you post, and by posting it you let us show it on the site until you delete it or we remove it.

Post only what is yours to share. Never post anyone’s phone number, email address or other personal details, or an interview paper or questions you agreed to keep secret, and follow What you must not do. Each account may start up to 5 topics and post up to 50 replies a day. You can edit or delete your own posts; one that someone else answered stays as “Deleted”, without your words, so their replies keep their place. Anyone can report a post to us, and we may remove posts, lock topics and suspend accounts that break these terms.

Profiles and match scores

Your profile is filled in from your resume by software, including AI, and your match scores are worked out by software too. Both can be wrong or incomplete. Check your profile, and correct it on My Resume, before you apply: what you send to an employer is your responsibility.

Job listings and applying

Job listings come from employers and recruiters, or from openings they have published. We check them in good faith but cannot verify every detail, and we are not the employer: interviews, offers and the job itself are between you and the employer. When you apply to a job, we send your profile and resume to the employer that posted it, or to the recruiter hiring for it.

First Salary never asks job seekers for money. If anyone asks you to pay for a job you found here, don’t pay, and tell us.

What you must not do

You must not use the site to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it;
  • upload a resume, or anything else, that you have no right to share;
  • give false information, or pretend to be someone else;
  • harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, or post anything obscene or defamatory;
  • infringe anyone’s copyright, trademark or other rights;
  • upload viruses or other harmful code;
  • copy the site or its job listings in bulk, by scraping, crawling or otherwise (search engines that follow our robots.txt are welcome);
  • overload the site, get around its security, or try to reach data that isn’t yours;
  • send spam, or defraud anyone.

We may suspend or close your account if you do.

Our content

The site, its design, software and text, and our collection of job listings belong to First Salary or to those who license them to us. You may use the site for your own job search, but these terms give you no right to copy it or to use our name or logo.

Closing your account

You can stop using First Salary at any time. To delete your account, write to privacy@firstsalary.com from the email address you sign in with; our Privacy Policy explains what happens to your data. We may change or stop parts of the site, and if we close it, we will tell account holders first.

Your data and backups

We take care to keep your data safe and backed up, but we can’t promise that nothing will ever be lost. Keep your own copy of your resume.

Limitation of liability

We provide the site as it is and as available, and we don’t promise that it will always work or be free of errors. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as a missed job, interview or other opportunity, or lost earnings. Our total liability to you for anything to do with the site is limited to ₹1,000, or to what you paid us in the 12 months before your claim, if that is more. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or any liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

Indemnity

If someone makes a claim against us because you uploaded something you had no right to share, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses this causes us.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them or the site. This doesn’t take away your right to complain to a consumer commission where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. We post the new version here with a new date, and if a change matters, we email account holders at least 7 days before it takes effect. Using the site after a change takes effect means you accept it.

General

These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
